idea #1 fairytales...

When we think of fairytales we atomaticaly think of disney, with their
happy endings, love storys, princesses and princes. But before disney was founded
the fairytales that we know (cinderella, snow white) are not the original stories. Disney
adapted these storys for children. Origianlly fairytales we dark and twisted stories and
not often actually had happy endings for example the ending of the original snow white 'Not knowing that this new queen was indeed her stepdaughter, she arrives at the wedding, and her heart fills with the deepest of dread when she realizes the truth. As a punishment for her attempted murders, a pair of glowing iron shoes are brought forth with tongs and placed before the Queen. She is then forced to step into the iron shoes and to dance until she drops dead' this version would no
of been allowed for childrens eye so the ending had to be adapted to a 'happy ending'

Snow white has now been adapted into a movie - which is a completely different story
with a few aspects that are the same (snow white and the huntsman) this is
aimed at people 12+ because of its dark content. Also, a tv program Once upon at time, which
not only adapts snow white but also other stories such as Cinederella, Sleeping Beauty -
which in this show falls in love with Rumplestiltskin.

because the original stories are not films or programs its hard to determin what the
would of been wearing, i would say dark colours because or the dark storyline. The Disney version of
snow white have a very different costumes the colours are bright and the dresses are fit for a princess,
where as the latest rendition of snow white we see dark coloured outfits and not as many dresses -
this is more like the original snow white story would have in it. if i was to base a whole collection on fairytales
i think i would be quite restricted to what i could do the styles seem to be more or less the same for example,
cinderella, beauty and the beast, snow white and sleeping beauty all wear ball gowns so the
style of dress i couldn't do much with. i think the colours i am also restricted with there either bright colours
or dark colours. aslo i could mix both the the past and present fairytale films because it wouldn't look
good  as a collection because they dont link in very well.

idea #2 mysical beings

Mystical beings have been heard of for 100s of years, these include vampires, witches
and werewolfs .

Vampires

vampires have been known since pre historic times but they were never called
'vampires' until the 18th century, after an influx of vampire superstition into Western Europe from areas where vampire legends were frequent, such as the Balkans and Eastern Europe. although local variants were also known by different names, such as vrykolakas in Greece and strigoi in Romania. This increased level of vampire superstition in Europe led to mass hysteria and in some cases resulted in corpses actually being staked and people being accused of vampirism. vampires through history have been changed in the past
vampires were known to be feared but now people want to meet them and be like them, this is because of
films that appear in cinema. before the 19th century vampires wernt known for having
fangs or being affraid of the sunlight this started in count dracula. The cloak appeared in stage productions of the 1920s, with a high collar introduced by playwright Hamilton Deane to help Dracula 'vanish' on stage. Lord Ruthven and Varney were able to be healed by moonlight, although no account of this is known in traditional folklore.  Implied though not often explicitly documented in folklore, immortality is one attribute which features heavily in vampire film and literature. Much is made of the price of eternal life, namely the incessant need for blood of former equals. The present films we see about vampire are completley different,
we see vampires being good - feeding on animal blood instead of humans, sparkling in sunlight as appose
to dying also in programs a vampire can wear a ring that lets them be seen in sunlight. we also see vampires falling in love where as vampires are usually known for their exotic ways. another thing is vampires now
have special powers such as mind reading and mind compultion. The costumes or vampires arent
very interesting basically there always dressed in normal clothing but when dracula came out the were
known for wearing cloaks - so i think if i was to base my fmp on vampires it would be quite hard to
design a collection based on them.

this week i was inspired by...

Pinned Image
i love this picture, i think its just soooo cute! when
i was on pinterest i notice a lot of different ways starbuck
has been photographed, and this is my favourite. i like the
colour tones of the photograph it fits in really well
with the theme. one thing i dont like it the mac in the background,
i think its pretty pointless and would look better without it.

mary-kate and ashley were my idols growing up and inspired
me loads, from fashion to the way i looked. this is one
of my favourite pictures of them. i like the simpilicity of
the photo - black and white, and just there faces. i think the
way they have done their make-up is really good aswell, there
eyes stand out, out of everything in the photograph.

here's another one of my favourite programs (the vampire
diaries) i like the costumes they have on the show, it ranges
from the 1500s to the fashion now. i like the wide range it
has and it sometimes inspires my design idea, which this
could be an idea for my fmp.

Olivia Palmero is one of my style icons, she
ispires how i dress, how she keeps it causal but
still looks stylish! i love the preppy look she has,
this is a look im considering doing for my fmp. this isnt
my favourite look of hers but i like the colour pallette
of the whole outfit.

this is a random picture, but i really like it. i love
the colours of the photography, this proves inspiration
is everywhere - i got my colour inspiration of a picture
of smoke, i could do my fmp collection based on this
colour pallette.

grease is one of my all time favourite films.
i love the costumes that the characters wear. this
outfit in particular is my favourite, because this outfit
back then would of been quite shocking. i like the fact
it is all black and still makes a statement.

i found this image while looking through pinterest
i really like this dress its really simple, but the volume
adds more interest to the dress. also i really like the bows
that are situated all over the dress, it makes the dress.

Pinned Image
the 1950s is my favourite era of clothing and this
image reminds me of that era, as she looks to
be inspired by it. i like the pastel tone of the dress
its very girly. also, i think the tones of the picture
go really well with what the women is wearing.

artists, designers, photographers...

Chrtistian Dior
this is one of my favourite of dior. i like the
classic and simple look it has. also i like the black
and white photography it suits the image well.
MaryKatrantzou
i really like this photograph; i love how the
dress clashes with the background, its different
and unusual. also i really like the bright colours of the
photograph, make the image look appealing and
nice to look at. although, one thing i dont like is the chosen
model she looks very boring and plain - maybe they could
of done something more with her.
Gareth pugh
this is probably one of the worst designs ive ever seen.
it really creeps me out - how you cant see his face. also, i
hate the balls all around his face - it just looks stupid!
also, i thing catwalks should be stylish... this is
just tacky as hell and look awful!!!!
Christain La Croix
Christain La Croix is one of my favourite designers,
but this design is horrible. i hate everthing about
it, especially the thing around her head it looks
stupid. also i feel the flowers dont fit into the design at
all, as i feel its supposed to be something religous, i
just dont think flowers when i see religous things.
Marcus Harvey - Myra
this painting was supposed to one of the most shocking
painting ever. to be honest i dont find it very shocking
as murderers are painted all the time. i dont really
like the painting much i find it very boring athough i
like the way it has been painted with the childrens handprint
its very original and it links in the theme of the whole
picture - as she murdered children.
